Times are changing and we are in need of new technology! Out with the old broken desktop and in with the innovative iPad.
My school is located in a low-socioeconomic area, representing a variety of races and ethnic backgrounds.
I am teaching in a public charter school and have 25 students in my classroom. My first graders are energetic, honest and work hard to meet their academic goals. Many of my students do not have the resources at home that they need to help them be successful in school, so by providing them with new opportunities to use and engage in new forms of technology I can help expand their learning.
My Project
I have requested an iPad for our classroom. I not only will be able to use the iPad for classroom testing purposes, to monitor students growth and progress, but I can use the iPad and apps from the app store to create engaging and fun opportunities to expand on learning. I look forward to being able to implement a new variety of learning in the classroom through the implementation of new technology. I am able to create and supplement learning in math, language arts, reading, and other subject areas for my students through the use of an iPad. Having an iPad would allow me to supplement their learning through the use of apps, games, etc. to create and extend learning in a fun, interactive, and engaging manner.
This project is important because these students do not have the resources or opportunities to use or be engaged through the use of technology throughout the school day.
We do not have a computer lab or computer time for my grade level, so they are not able to be engaged in learning through the use of any sort of technology. However, by having just one iPad in the room and through the use of my document camera I can take one iPad and use it in a whole group setting.
