Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

With National Elections coming up, what better way to teach my immigrant students and all students about the democratic process.

We have received and influx of students from other countries in the past year.

Unfortunately, many of these students are running from a country where dictatorship and lack of opportunities are rising. What a better way to teach them about democracy than though a school wide election.

I am an advisor for the school student council and the council would like to hod a school wide voting event to see which candidate the school considers will be a better president for the country. Students will be taught about the democratic process and how elected officials are elected not about certain candidates. Agendas and views based on teachers/adults personal views will not be promoted or discussed.

We are asking for "I voted stickers" so that every student that votes can show their pride in taking part of the democratic process. The book about elections and the process will be shared by the student council members as they will visit classes to explain the process to the entire student body, the table decoration and backgrounds will be used to decorate the voting area. The candy will be given to students that vote as a thank you for voting for the entire student body. The balance business card paper will be used to print voter registration cards for every student that, registers to vote.

Help my students, in particular my newcomer, immigrant students learn about and participate in the democratic process.
