This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A cornerstone of America's past is the United States Constitution. These materials will allow my students to gain respect for this essential document and develop a deep understanding of their rights as citizens.

I have 14 students in my fifth grade SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) classroom.

We are a school in an urban setting and all of my students are learning English as their second language. Most are from South American countries such as El Salvador, Columbia, and Peru. They all receive free breakfast, snack and lunch.

My Project

The students will be able to read various nonfiction accounts by different authors about the United States Constitution. They will be able to compare facts, perspectives, and the craft of the authors. They will be immersed in the academic language of the Constitution and learn a great respect for this document. They will also be able to explain their rights and responsibilities as citizens.

My students will become better citizens of their country.

It will allow them to develop a deeper understanding of this document that is one of the cornerstones of our democracy and why it is important to follow.
