Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom has a diverse group of learners. We are a Title 1 funded school, with 100% of our students receiving free/reduced lunch. We speak different languages, we look different, we are at different places in our learning path, and we learn in different ways.
The students in my class are eager to learn and this will make learning even more exciting.
The goal of learning brings us all together. They ask questions, they initiate projects in class, and they are engaged. They might be working on different projects, but they come together to help each other meet their goals. Who could ask for more?
My Project
Students sometimes see Social Studies or Science content just one time during the day. Usually it is just in the textbook or on some worksheet.
The best way to teach content is to give students exposure to it as many times as possible and to connect it to a variety of subjects.
Students need to see content in multiple formats.
This project will make a difference to students by giving them the opportunity to tackle content in books and magazines during the literacy block. Students will have access to the content and be able to research more about their interests.
Students will be using these materials to practice literacy skills they are learning such as using headings to help locate information in a book, understanding what new vocabulary means, and finding the most important information.
