This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in the Bronx. I serve a diverse group of students from kindergarten through fifth grade. Many are English language learners and come from low-income families. They are so excited to have a visual arts class where they can express themselves. I will be visiting classrooms in a blended capacity and a large percentage may be working remotely this upcoming school year. I see several classes on a remote only basis as well as those in the building
My art class is a safe haven where students can feel free to take creative risks and express their emotions.
Students in my school typically don't have access to art supplies at home. They are bright, creative, and eager young scholars. They would all really benefit from your support with materials and mediums which they don't get to use except in our art classroom.
My Project
My elementary visual arts students have had a rough year. They LOVE painting and can’t get enough. This year we are working on being more socially responsive to students emotions and unique cultural backgrounds.
We need a wide variety of art materials to reinforce social emotional learning, allow for individual representation and creative expression.
Students have a range of beautiful skin tones and representation is so important when creating self portraits and personal illustrations. I have requested both multicultural/colors of the the world markers and tempera paints to allow for more accurate representation of self.
We also need to restock our watercolor supply with paint refills, pans, non spill water cups and get a few 9x12 frames to display exemplary artwork around our school building.
