This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Ask any child in my class, and they will tell you that Universal Access is their favorite time of the day. This is when students go to various workstations around the room while I pull a small group to work with. My students would love to add an iPad workstation to their workstations for meaningful hands-on learning.

I am a first grade teacher at an amazing little elementary school in North Hollywood, CA.

My students are eager to learn, always try their best, and know how important it is to persevere. I enjoy seeing my students faces light up every Monday morning as we head to our computer lab for 30 minutes of exploration on the computers, but unfortunately, that's it for the week. Although we have a few computers in my room, they are outdated and will only play certain programs. Even so, my students don't mind and make the most out of the resources they have. They absolutely love technology!

My Project

With an iPad mini in the classroom, students can pair up and take turns exploring the endless learning applications. A few years ago, through DonorsChoose, my class received an iPod touch, so all of the programs my previous class downloaded can be transferred to the iPad mini. During Universal Access time, students can play games in all subject areas, create art, play music, read books, and watch educational videos using the iPad mini. There is no better way to learn than in a fun and meaningful way, and this iPad mini can provide them with that.

Students love to explore with technology, and there's no better way to engage a group of six year olds than with an iPad mini in the classroom.

My hope is that this tool will help students increase their reading fluency, comprehension skills, and mathematical concepts as they play high interest educational games.
