My students are in child development. Dramatic play is very important in their socialization with friends. My students come from a poor, rural area and are not exposed to using their imagination and being creative. They do not have access to the dress up clothes and dress up center.
My students live in a poor, rural area.
Many of the students are not exposed to dramatic play items. They are limited to what they have. Many of them spend time outside running around with no structure, with limited resources outside for them to use. They like role playing their family in the kitchen, so I decided to start a dress up center so they can use their imagination further and role play their family. Many students do not have a complete family unit with the ideal mother, father, and siblings. Many of them pretend they do as they act out their imagination. So when they have the dress up center they will be able to pretend that they do have the ideal family. They like to act out situations and their environment. This interaction also with friends in their class promotes oral language skills and brings out their emotions.
My Project
For many children, playing dress up is a favorite kind of pretending. When they try on or play with adult size clothes, make up, and props, they have an opportunity to learn more about the grown ups in their lives. This will help them to express their feelings in a positive way. In addition, when they are playing dress-up they often interact and engage with each other in rich conversation. This will help them develop language skills.
This center is a great opportunity for children to express themselves creatively and interact with others during school time.
They have limited resources at home that allow them to foster their creativity through drama and role playing. The donation you make will help children learn to be creative and imaginative by using the dress up clothes and dress up center. The shy students who do not express themselves will definitely have a fun chance to open up and express themselves in a positive way!
