My Students
My students are amazing, marvelous and challenging on many levels. They come to school excited, eager to experience an exciting lesson. I often refer to them jokingly as “challenging customers” that refuse to accept second best. As I try my best to provide excellent customer service to my clientele, I find that it is never enough to just teach.
It is a journey to discover how best to serve every single one of my students and get them ready for college and for life and I am enjoying the ride.
Our school is a Title I school in Atlanta where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students are facing many socioeconomic challenges that hinder their academic success. As I observe them interact with one another, enthused in a lesson, I regain my conviction that a future is possible and achievable for all my students.
My Project
Imagine a whole city coming to life right in front of you. As the architect, the urbanist, the realtor, the student is in charge of planning and designing their dream city. The Cricut machine and paper accessories and decals will allow the students to cut and build and design the city using paper.
Using various skills that are not limited to just one subject, they will dream, think, measure, scale, design, and finally print and build their dream city with the Cricut cutting machine.
This activity will help build leadership and communication skills in my students and help them see the pletora of possibilities in a STEM career for the future.
