This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 5th grade English Language Arts at a Title I school in the Bronx, New York. The majority of my students come from economically disadvantaged households. The students in my class have a wide range of learning styles, interests, strengths and weaknesses, and backgrounds. Despite their many unique qualities, one thing that my students have in common is a strong desire to learn that is sometimes hindered by a lack of resources.
Although, every day they are faced with many challenges both in and out of their homes, they come to school eager to learn.
My students are creative, funny, hardworking and determined to do their best! These kids face many difficulties including taking responsibilities beyond their ages, yet when they arrive to school they are just like any kids, filled with a passion to learn more about the world.
My Project
Teaching students to write can prove challenging at times.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
The small teaching easel, comprehension skills cards and other resources will help them be able to successfully write and get ready for middle school. In our classroom, we try to motivate our students in any way we can. Having various ways for students to learn how to write will give them the ability to choose their favorite way to express themselves and showcase their work! The possibilities are endless when we have the appropriate materials available to us.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
