My students live in a small community that truly embodies the philosophy that it takes a village to raise a child. Our school is made up of amazing 4K - 4th grade students who are developing skills to become lifelong learners. Students in my classroom are experiencing their first time in a school setting. We focus on developing social emotional and school readiness skills.
My students are curious, imaginative, and eager to learn and grow.
I strive to create a stimulating classroom environment that provides materials and manipulatives for students to explore and experience, that also foster independence and creativity.
My Project
Imaginative play is a key component in child development and this kitchen set will promote student engagement in our dramatic play center. Imaginative play in 4K is beneficial to the development of cognitive, language, and social emotional skills. It enhances cognitive flexibility, creativity, increases awareness of multiple perspectives. It also promotes communication skills, problem solving skills, and empathy.
I am hopeful that a new kitchen area will spark interest in children who do not typically choose the dramatic play area and will also inspire all children to extend their imaginations.
Our 4K school day includes large group circle times and small group work times with an academic focus. The majority of our day is free play time. During free play time, my students have the opportunity to choose where they want to play. The dramatic play area is a very popular choice, so our current kitchen set has seen a lot of wear and tear. A new kitchen set will breathe new life into our dramatic play center.
