The students I am creating this project for go to school just north of Boston at a Title I school. They are inquisitive and very visual learners. They love to learn about different cultures and experiences, which some of them do not get to engage in.
Our students are something special and we encourage them to be the best they can be, we want them to know more about the world while practicing their fluency!
Our 3rd grader team is about building relationships and connections that are meaningful. We work hard on being kind to one another and different ways of showing respect. They also work on becoming independent individuals who are responsible for their own actions. We are very excited to get this school year rolling with our new kiddos!
My Project
There is a huge debate going on in education today about the dreaded "H" word. HOMEWORK! Teachers assign homework to advance student learning at home and to "check in" to make sure that students understood the lesson. Some people think that students are in school long enough, they deserve a break when they are at home and should just be KIDS!
We want our students to continue their learning at home, in a fun, creative and meaningful way!
We encourage our students to read EVERY night! Third grade is an important year for students to maintain their fluency and continue building their comprehension. Using the Scholastic magazines, students can read articles at home and learn about new technology or inventions, different cultures, science, and even food. The magazines cover all different engaging topics. We then take the Scholastic magazines and have a classroom discussion about each of the articles. The magazines include a debate, which we have the students participate in as well. These subscriptions also include online resources and videos for us to use!
