My Project

All of my students are on and IEP and they all receive meals and snacks while at school. My students need a lot of repetition to meet their academic needs. My students are reluctant to try new things. They are constantly asking for someone to sit next them and they need a lot of attention and praise. My students are thriving in a play based Math center with a vet pet theme. Adding another element to play-based learning; a puppet stage in the literacy center will teach many concepts in grammar, story elements, vocabulary, and social skills.

Providing students with play-based learning they are feel more relaxed and develop a strong sense of owning their learning in reading and writing.

Adding a puppet stage to my literacy and writing center will teach many concepts: helping them recognize when to use quotation marks in a dialogue, ending punctuation, and proper sentence structure.

When students play with puppets they are repeating elements of a story reinforcing charters, setting, plot, climax, and problem- solution. Students will be engaged and will take ownership of their learning.

Each puppet has its own unique personality and character. When students create their own story they will develop personal expressions and tone. When a teacher gives them a play or story to read from a book students will apply skills from the puppet stage to a textbook or fluency passage.

As students play with characters they will expand their vocabulary. A student playing with a doctor or dentist puppet will add words like pulse, hygiene, treatment, and medication to their everyday vocabulary.

Social skills is essential for all students, students with autism and other health impairments will work together and practice and learn ways to read tones and social cues.

Adding a puppet show has so many benefits!
