My Students
If you ask a child with Autism to read a story, chances are that he or she will read with an almost robotic voice, word for word, with no expression. Reader's Theater can be a valuable reading activity for children with Autism to help them develop and use expression and imagination!
My class is a highly motivated, energetic group of children with Autism in grades 1-3.
We spend most of our morning working on becoming strong, fluent readers. The majority of my students come from low income families. They all have great attendance and a love of learning!
My Project
My students will use a variety of puppets to act out Reader's Theater pieces. Throughout this school year, most of my students have become more fluent readers, however, they still lack emotion and expression when they read. Using puppets will be a fun and engaging way for my students to practice using expression. This will also allow them to practice appropriate speaking volume when they give live performances for their friends!
Please consider helping me provide a fun way to help my students use expression and their imagination.
This project will help them become stronger readers, improve their social skills, and increase their self confidence!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
