We have begun our school year with 21 energetic students. Our class consists of students from diverse ethnicities and financial backgrounds. Almost a third of the class have not had prior school experience and some are ELL (English Language Learners).
My students may come with different abilities, BUT all of them are enthusiastic and ready to learn.
The reason I created this project is to provide an even playing field where learning will take place through hands on exploration using various types of building materials which will challenge their imaginations and creative abilities.
My Project
These materials will be used during both structured and unstructured times. During center time, students will have the option to choose what they would like to work with and who they would like to work with. These opportunities will help them to develop their communication and cooperation skills. Interlocking discs and Plus Plus foam shapes will allow my visual learners to create masterpieces that are appeasing to the eye. Magnetic building materials and life sized constructions materials will challenge my spatial learning to problem solving in the creation of 3-D projects. In addition, they will have an opportunity work together in cooperation with classmates to create a shared task, a life skill which is necessary in the workplace.
