My students need coloring pencils, markers, magic clay, and construction paper to be able to use art in the classroom as well as pencil boxes to keep material organized.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a second grade teacher for students that are in need of people who are willing to sacrifice themselves and are eager to teach them through various modalities. Theses students receive free lunches and many come from foster homes or single parent homes. They are surrounded by negative images of their community and seek positive statements about their hard work and effort. These students are encouraged to show their abilities, but they lack the resources to shine. I would like to offer them the opportunity to shine in a unique artistic manner.
These second graders are full of ideas. They would like to show what they are learning in more than the conventional manner. They are willing to put their ideas in art. The problem that I face is the lack of supplies that we have at hand. They just learned about the life cycle of different animals, and we are starting a unit on Dinosaurs. We would like to create diagrams and 3 dimensional representations of these science concepts. The lack of supplies left us only with hopes and wishes to create our models.
We really need to model magic clay as it is easy for their little hands to work with and does not make it frustrating. We would be able to create models of the different life cycles, solid shapes, and dinosaur fossils with the magic clay. We need construction paper to create diagrams and representations of the science and math concepts. We need color pencils and markers to make it fun to decorate our projects and easier than crayons. Second graders are so eager to show others that they are capable of using pencils instead to crayons. They really love markers, and it would be nice the give them their own. Finally, I would like to supply them with a nice pencil box where they could keep their pencil crayons and markers organized. I can't wait the see their sparkly face when they get the supplies!
With your generosity I will be able to spark their imagination and creativity along with teaching them difficult math and science concepts. I am sure that you will not forget about the impact that these items will have in their understanding of difficult concepts while making it fun and engaging.
