Students will use different colors to identify strong evidence, vocabulary, key ideas, and important parts of writing. During our lively discussions, students have been learning to think deeply about characters' experiences, asking thoughtful questions, and building important skills like empathy, multiple perspectives, and respect. \r\n\r\nReading time in our classroom is joyful, interactive, and full of meaningful connection. I've seen particular students light up when they recognize parts of their own culture or experiences in these stories, while others are excitedly discovering perspectives different from their own. Through reflection journals, group sharing, and even planning a school-wide compassion project, our students are growing not just as readers, but as thoughtful, caring individuals. \r\n\r\nAlso, we have been bringing reading to life with hands-on activities like empathy mapping and collaborative brainstorming, where students practice seeing the world through someone else's eyes and learn that understanding others starts with curiosity and an open heart.
