I'm Sick...of Writing!

Help me give my students specialty markers, paint supplies, and dry erase sleeves.

My Students

Our friendly school is located in the rural Florida Panhandle. It is too far from the big cities to get resources and just an hour from the coast to miss tourist dollars. Over 80% of our county students come from low-income families who make us a Title I county. If you've been to the world-famous sugar-white sands of Panama City Beach, you've driven through our one traffic light town. Unfortunately, on October 10th, 2018, our community was forever changed by Hurricane Michael.

Even as we have passed the three year anniversary, we are still facing the economic effects of the catastrophic storm.

Some students were displaced from the hurricane and/or lost everything that belonged to them. The worst part is that many adjust to a new reality of leaky roofs, cold drafts, and deadly black mold. They face this at school, home, and community events. There is no escape from the horror that we all experienced. There is no healing when the debris and damage have not been dealt with. There is no moving on when our biggest industry, timber and Apalachicola National Forest, will take tens of years to regrow. The storm devastated us financially, emotionally, and physically.

My Project

My students write A LOT! They write their handwriting letters on lines, the 10 sight words within their levels, their name on every paper, a daily narrative sentence with labels, and we even write story problems and numerals in math!

We need tools to make writing fun!

The glitter glue will be used to make vowels special!

The letter punches will be used to spell cvc words like cat, fox, & bin.

The scented markers can be used to write daily narrative stories.

The chart markers will be used to write sight words on poster size paper.

The q-tips will be used as quills in tempera paint to write numerals and then as a stamper to put the give number of dots (touches of the tip).

The laminating pouches will be used to make write and wipe strips of letters where kids can trace a few, wipe, and trade with a partner.

WHY?? Because all of this is WAY COOLER than writing with a pencil on copy paper! Student engagement is a huge key in mastery and I'm willing to pull out all of the tricks if you're willing to help purchase the materials!
