Help me give my students the gift of learning to love READing. So many of them have been in a reading class so many times yet they have never read "just because."

If you give a student a book... they'll want more books! The ambiance in my classroom is projected to give everyone who enters our reading oasis the love to read and read. From reading posters and bookmarks to the chairs and lamp in the back of the room reading is on display for my students at all times. Due to the fact that most of them have been in a reading class before they are reluctant to reading for recreational purposes because they have never been allowed to. With this book they will now want to read and read and read. Hence the title, "If you give a student a book... they'll want more books." That my friend is music to a READing teacher's ears.
The book we will be reading is something that all my students can relate to. I stress daily to them that they should always try to make a connection to what they are reading. As an added bonus once we finish reading "The Hate U Give" we will be able to the watch movie and make even more connections.
The key to make reading addictive is to first introduce students to a book that they can not put down.
With this novel students will be able to make text to self connections, text to world, text to text as well as text to digital connections once we're finished with the book and we have watched the movie. All of which are useful when you have the opportunity to read "just because.
