Most of my students come from single-parent homes with low-income and/or government assistance. My students face a multitude of challenges in their neighborhoods and homes. However, our classroom is one where my students know that they are safe and can enjoy being a kid.
My students are eager to learn.
They enjoy talking about what they've learned each day. They encourage each others' accomplishments with a round of claps and encouraging words. I look forward to each new day of learning with them.
My Project
I would like to have multicultural books in our classroom library to better invoke my students' interest in reading. My school's demographics are more than 97% Black. As such, I would like to provide my students with books that they can see themselves as characters in.
My students' reading interest will spark upon seeing characters with their skin tones.
I would also like to provide them biographies on African Americans to motivate them.
Having a multicultural library will provide a wealth of knowledge and inspiration in reading for my students.
