We service about 2,000 students: minorities, English Language Learners, homeless and low-income families. My students are eager to learn but when it comes to completing school work, poor parenting, homelessness, and poverty, among other issues prevent them from completing school work regularly and getting credits so they become truant or fall behind their credits. Truancy has many faces: excessive tardiness, extended vacations, absences after the holidays, etc. In many instances students don't have BASIC toiletry supplies to groom themselves and attend their meetings with their teachers.
Homeless students need to be able to clean up to go to school!
My Project
You will help the students with supplies to groom themselves so they can feel confident and attend meetings with teachers and counselors. In many occasions, students don't come in because they have not had a chance to clean up. We take for granted waking up and showering every morning. There are children and families who consider this a privilege. You can make a positive impact in the life of a child by providing them with these basic grooming kits. They will use the soap to wash their faces, clean their teeth with the tooth brush and the paste and they will comb their hair to be sharp and ready to go to school!
Can you imagine yourself having to rely on a donation to do this?
I can't either.
