This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Why was 6 afraid of 7? Because 7 ate 9! Learning new math concepts can seem scary to some kids in 3rd grade, but with fun ways to practice math skills, no one needs to be afraid!
My third grade students are a highly-active group of kids from a low-income, minority population, some of which have recently arrived from Cuba and speak very little English.
Although my class is highly motivated to learn math skills through the activities we do in class, many learn best when they are able to practice these skills in a playful manner.
My Project
Since my students come from different backgrounds and their experiences with math are not the same, they all learn differently. On a daily basis my students are broken up into groups according to their math abilities and are taught the day's lesson at their level. With these learning center activities and at-my-seat games students will then be able to put into practice those skills being taught either in a small group or on their own in a fun and exciting way.
For a child, learning math skills is very important.
They are not only taught how to add, subtract, multiply and divide (to only name a few) but they also develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Students can then apply these skills to real-life situations and become successful at what they set out to do.
