This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I work with a group of "at promise" students who have challenges in conduct, attendance, and academics. Despite their challenges, most of my students are creative scholars who aspire to go into the field of art or engineering. They belong to pathways, or academies, with classes that focus on the arts, architecture, manufacturing, construction, and engineering.
Our school has spirit days, and on Mondays staff and students are encouraged to wear college shirts and gear to promote a college-going culture.
Unfortunately, not many students wear the gear, and I think it is because they don't have the resources to purchase them.
Creating a positive learning environment that reminds students that they are capable and able to be successful is important. My students are amazing, resilient students but are struggling with self-confidence. The items from my project will be given to students so that they can wear them on Mondays to boost confidence and foster a growth mindset. Thank you for your consideration.
