This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work as an Adaptive Physical Education teacher with special needs students at the high school level. The disabilities I serve are Autism, Moderate Cognitive Impairment, Severe Multiple Impairments and Severe Cognitive Impairments.
They have different ways of learning and like regular kids, they learn through visuals, kinetics and auditory clues.
Particularly, students with Autism learn well through sensory stimuli properly channeled. "The music lovers" will listen to the music while vigorously move around; therefore, improving overall fitness and locomotive skills.
My Project
I want to create an atmosphere where every learner has a chance to succeed. Every student will have an opportunity to be meaningfully challenged in his/her abilities, but geared towards achievement according to ability. Namely, students with Autism love properly channeled sensory stimulation; therefore, if I play their favorite music using the requested Samsung Tablet, they will listen and move around, hence improving their fitness abilities and locomotive skills. The tablet will have other uses as well, such as pictures orAvideos for assessments.
The other requested items will have heavy usage due to the fact that they are fun, age and ability appropriate.
I will deliver what's best for each individual learning style whether it be auditory, visual or kinetic, because one size doesn't fit all.
The measure of success for me is when the student will come back to the gym for more with the broad smile and eagerness to learn new "tricks".
