This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love to use technology in my classroom. Common Core Math Apps on the iPad are a fun way to get students excited about math. I want every student to say iLove Math when they walk into my classroom.

My students beautifully reflect the city in which our school is located.

They are a very diverse group of students representing a wide variety of cultures. These middle school students have selected to pursue their interests in science, technology, engineering, and math by joining my STEM Elective. My STEM elective classes are a perfect blend of sixth, seventh, and eighth grade young ladies and young gentlemen. Over 70% of my students receive free or reduced lunch based on their family's income level. However, based on the struggles that many of the students face at home, they know that they are completely supported by their family at school. The teachers, staff, and administration work together with the students, their families, and the members of the community to continuously improve the students' lives. With all of their cultural differences, the students at my school are very happy and easy going. They enjoy challenges in their education and are excited to learn on a daily basis.

My Project

My students use their own smartphones and tablets to access specific Common Core Math Apps throughout the school year. Students without access to their own personal technology should not feel left out or disadvantaged, so this iPad will be made available to my students who do not have their own devices. With this device, these students will have access to the same Math apps so that they can succeed with the new Common Core standards. In addition, I would like to use a software program like Splashtop to tie the tablet to my Smartboard and give my students the opportunity to communicate their love of math. Splashtop lets students interact with the Smartboard from their devices, making learning interactive.

Donations to this project will give my students the opportunity to get excited in class and the desire to participate and share their knowledge.

Technology has a way of making math cool and fun and really taps into the wiring of today's digitally wired students.
