My Students

The way we approach student learning, especially literacy, is rapidly changing through the use of technology in our classrooms. With the use of an iPad in my classroom, I hope to inspire my students to become better readers and writers, and to empower them to be partners in their own education.

My students are an amazing group of third graders that live in Moore, Oklahoma.

They come from a variety of backgrounds, including several from an elementary school that was destroyed on May 20th from an EF5 tornado. Each student brings a different level of life experience and learning experience to our classroom. They are bright, energetic, and eager to learn new things this year. I hope to engage my students by making learning fun with the use of technology in our classroom.

My Project

I am requesting an iPad for our classroom to help my students become better readers and writers. I know that my students enjoy using all types of technology, especially when listening to stories. With the addition of an iPad, my students will be able to become better readers by listening to fluent readers online or with educational reading applications like Scholastic Storia App. Additionally, my students will be able to use the iPad when doing research projects, use educational reference applications such as the Merriam-Webster Dictionary App, and will be able to practice their writing skills using applications that allow students to publish stories. In third grade, it is essential for my students to be able to write informative, narrative, and opinion pieces. My hope is to engage each one by having the iPad as a resource that is valuable and fun to practice their writing skills.

An iPad allows for more opportunities for literacy practice, and encourages students to be more engaged and motivated in their own learning.

It is such a versatile tool for the classroom, and I have no doubt that it will enhance student learning. By donating to this project, you will be helping to put learning in the hands of my students. You are helping a student become a better reader and writer.
