Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a Title I school, serving students in grades ETK to 8-grade span. Most of my students are English Learners. Due to our school's limited budget and as a first-year teacher, I cannot provide educational materials that will enrich and motivate my students to perform to their fullest potential.
I work with energetic and hardworking students who are curious about learning.
My students come to school from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. staying in extended school programs because their parents have long work hours.
Our school is currently focusing on STEM education, which will provide our students with skills to be college and career-ready. However, we do not have the budget or resources to make this vision a reality.
My Project
Last year, many students did not get the opportunity to practice the writing process on a journal. This year I would like to see my students keep their collection of outlines, drafts, and final copies of their work in one place.
I would like to see my first graders create, plan and write out stories throughout the year where they can revisit their work.
My students will get the opportunity to write narratives where they can use their imagination. They will get to write informative pieces where they can conduct their own research. They will be able to form reasonable opinions. Students will also, learn how to draw and color their illustrations that match their text.
At this age students need modeling and with the easel post-it boards, they will be able to see my thinking process to create, share, and write my ideas down.
Please help my first graders experience the writing process this year.
