"For the last few years, I have been teaching pre-kindergarten to 18 enthusiastic children. What a blessing it is to belong to a school community who cares about children and the quality of their education. However, our school is located in a struggling neighborhood in New York and funds can be a challenge. I am requesting a laminator for my classroom because I feel it is important to preserve the children's work. The children come to realize that we are laminating their work because it is very special. They will take pride in their work and will have memorable keepsakes for many years to come. Children's drawings are so special during the early childhood years. I will definitely laminate children's photos to display around the room. I will also use the laminator to create learning games for the children to use. They can practice phonemic awareness skills by matching pictures of rhyming words, sorting pictures of words that begin with the same sounds, and complete many activities that will prepare them to sound out words. I will purchase the laminating pouches if I receive this grant. I do not mind contributing to our classroom experience but can only spend a certain amount each year. I also buy many activities made of paper that always needs to be laminated. I can use laminated work to reinforce learning strategies such as number concepts. It is important to preserve what we have bought and be able to use it year after year. Also, many game pieces need to be laminated or they becomes ruined very quickly. While I teach my little ones to be gentle with our classroom materials, paper just can't hold up very long when 36 little hands are constantly at work. I want my little students to remember a beautiful room decorated with their work for the rest of their lives. It is important for families to feel their children are being educated in a school where teachers take the time to laminate their work and display it.
