it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
At RHS in Philadelphia, I have had the honor of working with an extraordinary group of students over the past three years. As a Social Studies Learning Support teacher, I have witnessed firsthand the incredible resilience, determination, and potential that each of my students possesses. These students, with their unique mix of abilities and challenges, have taught me the true meaning of perseverance and the importance of creating a safe and supportive learning environment. However, our journey has not been without obstacles. In light of recent tragedies that have deeply affected our school community, the need to provide a haven of comfort and engagement for these remarkable learners has become more critical than ever before.
My students at RHS are not defined by their disabilities, but by their endless potential.
They are individuals with diverse backgrounds, talents, and aspirations. Despite facing significant hurdles such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and behavioral challenges, they bring a wealth of untapped creativity and curiosity to the classroom. Each day, they challenge me to see the world through a different lens, to celebrate their victories, and to help them overcome their struggles. These students are our future artists, engineers, activists, and leaders; they deserve an educational experience that recognizes their uniqueness and supports their growth.
The project I am seeking to fund through DonorsChoose aims to transform our learning space into a sensory haven where students can feel welcomed, understood, and empowered to succeed. The specific items I am requesting – two floor lamps with natural lighting, fluorescent light filters, a cozy nature-inspired rug, and eucalyptus branch borders for bulletin boards – are not just decorations; they are tools to create an environment conducive to learning and well-being
