Illuminating Ideas: Circuit-Powered Greeting Cards for Social Change
Help me give my students materials to create illuminated greeting cards, including copper tape, cardstock, glitter paper, coin batteries, LEDs, and sheet protectors for their circuit designs.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Dear Potential Donors,
I'm excited to introduce a project that will spark both scientific curiosity and social awareness in my students.
Our goal is to create eye-catching, circuit-powered greeting cards that will serve as informative flyers to promote important causes or educate others on topics our students are passionate about.
In this project, students will:
Learn about electricity and circuits: Students will gain hands-on experience with basic electrical concepts by building a simple circuit using a coin battery and an LED.
Design and create: Each student will design their own greeting card, incorporating the LED circuit to add an attention-grabbing element to their message.
Research and advocate: Students will choose a cause or topic they're passionate about, conducting research to create informative content for their cards.
Technical drawing: As part of the learning process, students will submit a diagram of their circuit design, reinforcing their understanding of electrical concepts.
Present and share: Students will have the opportunity to present their illuminated greeting cards to their peers and potentially to a wider audience in our school community.
Materials Needed:
Coin batteries (CR2032)
LED lights (various colors)
Copper tape
Card stock
Markers, colored pencils, and other art supplies
This project will not only teach valuable STEM skills but also empower students to become advocates for causes they care about. By combining technology, art, and social studies, we'll create a truly interdisciplinary learning experience.
Your support will help illuminate our students' ideas - quite literally! Thank you for considering our project.
