Help me give my students the opportunity to hear about the Black experience from Black authors. Including, but not limited to, Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, Eldridge Cleaver, bell hooks, and current authors as well.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Please give my students the opportunity to hear Black experiences through Black voices.
Combining authors from the Civil Rights era (Martin Luther King, Jr.
and Malcolm X) with other Black voices from American history (James Baldwin, Frederick Douglass, Eldridge and Kathleen Cleaver) and contemporary authors (Ibram X. Kendi, Amber McBride, Nicole Hannah Jones, Brandy Colbert, and Kwame Alexander), students will learn about authentic Black experiences, and be able to view history, humanity and literature through a new lens. They can then apply that lens to current events to better understand the world.
