Help me give my students a Black Box Theater with the supplies they need to perform. We need a Chauvet SlimPar 64, 8 - Light Lighting System and Theatrical-up and accessories for peer performances and critiques.
We are a Title 1 school in a small city with students who need every advantage they can get. Many of our students come from broken families and the most challenging personal circumstances. But, despite their barriers, they are the most amazing students in the world! Our students don't mind working long hard hours to achieve their goals. Our kids stay late for after school rehearsals and those who have transportation help out by giving rides to those who don't. They are just the best and sweetest kids all-around!
Most of my Stagecraft and Theatre students do not have aspirations of becoming Broadway actors or technicians, although some do. But all of them still want and need to reap the benefits of a theatrical program (i.e. problem-solving, teamwork skills, technical expertise, creative and artistic expression). We have a large auditorium, shared by all in the school and we can't always access it. Plus the equipment is very expensive and only second & third-level students are allowed to touch it. Our new principal has given us permission to paint my classroom (once a storage closet) and convert it into a Black Box Theatre. In it, this smaller lighting system will be utilized as a "training equipment" or stepping stone to the larger, more complicated machinery. As for the stage make-up, it is part of our curriculum, we use it regularly and have just run out of supplies. Please help us get back on track with new lighting and cosmetics. Thank you.
