This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are enthusiastic and engaged in all aspects of learning. They come from a variety of ethnic, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. As all young children come to school with a variety of learning styles, we must provide an array of materials to meet and stimulate their growth. We must also document their achievements through the visual use of photographs.
Pre-kindergarten students are the youngest learners in a vibrant school community which is filled with supportive, involved parents.
Teachers also go beyond their role of "classroom teacher" and get to know children across the grades through inter-visitation and collaboration.
My Project
We are embarking on the NYC Department of Education's extensive study of "light".
Central to this initiative is a light table, which will enable students to closely investigate the properties of light.
We will be examining the myriad of ways we experience light in our lives. We will meet Pre-K math standards by examining shapes in relation to our light table. We will investigate how shadows are formed. We will also ask the question "how does light travel"?
Pre-K students are natural investigators and given the opportunity to examine a variety of objects using a light table will be able to come up with myriads of questions about how we consider light in our daily lives.
