I'll Have Brains With A Side of Eyeballs

My Students

"Is the brain, like, runny and stuff?" "Can we touch a real brain?" "Brains are so gross!" "I wanna see inside an eyeball." Believe it or not, I get comments like this from my students all the time. They want to see, touch, hold, and interact with these mysterious body parts.

My class is an elective, so most of my students are really curious about psychology and have signed up for the class because they are excited to learn more about the brain and human behavior.

We live in a very rural area where the unemployment rate is currently 20%. I want my students to have exposure to the same scientific experiences that those in wealthy, metropolitan areas have.

My Project

In the past, I was able to obtain several eyeballs for dissection. I had no idea what the students would think about this project. Surprisingly, I found that they truly enjoyed it! Although it is rare (if not unheard of) for students to say "thank you" at the end of a lesson, it happened the day we dissected eyeballs. Who knew they would respond so enthusiastically to such a grotesque experience! It was a thought-provoking, effective, and unforgettable lesson.

Providing my students with such a novel experience could only be made possible through your donation.
