My students love to dig deep into new topics and share what they know. I hope that my students leave my classroom with strong literacy skills in all subject areas. Successful scholars listen, learn and share.
My classroom is full of bright, energetic and inquisitive fifth grade students.
Our school encourages students and teachers to work collaboratively and to solve problems by thinking outside of the box. In my classroom, students are asked to regularly participate in Socratic Discussions and to support their statements with evidence following the idea of listen, learn and share.
My Project
My students need 2 iPads with cases, 2 headphone splitters, and 10 sets of headphones to participate in listening centers. Students will be able to work in a modern listening center. They will not be listening to books on tape, but, rather, they will be listening to current podcasts. These podcasts might relate to a subject we are currently studying or they might be connected to a current event. After students have had the opportunity to listen, take notes and build background, they will be ready to participate in a deep and meaningful classroom discussion showing that they can listen, learn and share.
Most adults receive news and current events through electronic devices such as TV, radio, phone or computer.
Developing a listening center around current technology will prepare students for the future. This activity center will also help to build literacy skills so that students can think for themselves and make meaningful choices in the future.
