My students are diverse kids from different countries in Latin America. Our school is located in a low-income area in Texas, and over 90% of the school's population is economically disadvantaged. My students are all bilingual students who are still recovering from the devastation that was caused earlier last year by Hurricane Harvey. Not many of them were directly affected by the hurricane, but a few students did experience flooding and were forced to move to a different apartment. Because of the trauma, they have experienced, I want to create an environment where they feel safe. I want them to look forward to coming to school and to feel completely engaged in all the learning activities.
Many of my students come to school hungry and tired on a daily basis.
This is in part due to the fact that most of these kids only get one meal per day. This meal is usually received at school. When they go back home, food is scarce. As a result, our students come to school almost daily with very low energy. Despite all of these challenges, I want to be able to provide something that will make their days much more bright.
My students were blessed last school year with the kindness of many generous donors. They received so many materials that aided them in their learning. All of my students grew significantly in all subject areas. This was possible thanks to the kindness and generosity of the donors. My students have completed forgotten about all the mental trauma that they experienced after hurricane Harvey. With all the materials we have received, my students come to school excited and ready to learn.
For this project, I am requesting three iPads to continue to expand my students' knowledge in reading, writing, math, science and social studies.
My students will benefit greatly with three extra iPads in the classroom because they can use them to enhance their literacy skills through the use of Estate, AR, Imagine Learning and many other reading apps. My students will also use the iPads to practice addition, subtraction and multiplication through the use of Think Central and Splashmath. Lastly, my students will use Peggle Go to learn about many different types of animals and historical figures for science and social studies.
