Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are part of my school's Dual Language Academy program located in Washington Heights, New York. Our school has a large ELL population and high needs for differentiation and authentic learning experiences. I am one half of the first grade dual language class along with my wonderful counterpart. Our sole purpose is to provide an enriching learning experience to our students each and every day. These 45 students are split into two groups and learn in a different language each day. One day they are with me learning literacy, math, social studies and science with me in Spanish! And the next day they are doing the same in English with my co-teacher. This is their second year in the program and are no strangers to the academic rigor this program demands from our students.

I have vivacious learners in my classroom who deserve more than receiving time with technology one time a week.

My classroom could hold the next Barrack Obama, Frida Kahlo, or Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I only wish to provide them with the most up to date resources and tools to bring out the very best in these bright souls.

My Project

Becoming multilingual in the world we live in right now is a luxury not everyone can have, but is an extraordinary opportunity for any child who is given the chance to do so. These iPads will have a meaningful and purposeful role in our classroom by giving my students the opportunity to see technology as a learning tool. They will be able to expand their literacy, and math abilities through so many amazing learning apps these iPads have to offer. They will be able to use these iPads during center time/guided groups (for ELA and math), and even during Fun Friday!

There will always be an educational use for these iPads in our classroom.

The possibilities are endless! By donating to this project, you will not only be helping my students learning, you will also be a helping hand to bringing out their academic and creative strengths.

Getting these iPads in the classroom will allow my students the opportunity to use technology, especially apps, specifically created to help develop reading and math skills in English and Spanish! We also need cases because small hands can be slippery hands. Considering my students are 5/6 year olds, we need to make sure these powerful tools are safe from the harm of a drop on the floor.

These iPads will provide interactive, meaningful, and engaging learning for my students who need to build their literacy and math foundations for the years to come.

Learning one language is hard enough for anyone, but what my students are doing is twice as hard considering they are strengthening not only their native language, but their English as well.
