My Students
If you asked the average fourth grader to share the biggest issues they face on a daily basis, you might hear the phrases "too much homework" or "state exams". Now imagine asking the same question to a fourth grade class where the many of the students are English Language Learners...
Our class of twenty-two (for now!) is like a mini United Nations.
Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Greece, Bangladesh and the Dominican Republic are just a few of the countries that students represent. Many of my students will speak English as a second language and a few will not be able to easily communicate at all.
With high stakes testing, the life of an average fourth grader is difficult enough as it is. Having to learn a second language presents so many more challenges to these students and they will need all the support they can get.
My Project
With the use of an iPad with headphones, students will be able to listen to books as they read them, work on phonics and word study, use top rated Apps to help with language acquisition, play educational games, use picture dictionaries, translators and much more.
Having an iPad mini in the classroom will help students with so many activities but most importantly it will help students to be independent, gain confidence and have fun in the classroom!
