We all know how children react to technology. Their eyes light up, they become engaged, and they relish the opportunity to learn. The challenge is that technology is not always easy to access and not always available for use. But I have a dream for our classroom!
I have a very diverse group of kids each year!
This year, I have kids reading on a 2nd grade level all the way up to an 8th grade level. It is a challenge to help my struggling readers become stronger and more confident learners while challenging my Gifted and Talented learners to extend their knowledge of the concepts taught, all while meeting individual needs for everyone in between. Then there's the constant struggle I have to get my hands on the resources we have at school.
My classroom computers are few and far between and are temperamental on any given day. The other resources are shared among the entire school and can be difficult to get our hands on. When I do, we don't have access to paid apps or resources that could best fit our learning.
My Project
I want to be able to integrate more technology learning opportunities to help my struggling readers by using apps that help with fluency and processing. My students need an Apple iPad to use for small group re-teach, GT projects and more! Having our own classroom iPad would mean that I'd be able to download and pay for the apps I wanted. Our classroom could also benefit from the everyday integration of technology! Students would be able to use the iPad to demonstrate their understanding in new, meaningful ways. Having an iPad would also mean I could have ongoing small group interventions using apps that target specific needs or reward students with educational opportunities that are exciting.
