Igniting Scientific Curiosity: Hands-On Science for Students in Special Education
Help me give my students vibrant, engaging, and interactive hands-on learning experiences that support the diverse needs of high school students in special education from low socio-economic backgrounds.
I am seeking donations to acquire basic lab supplies and hands-on science materials for my special education students at Barry Goldwater High School in Phoenix, AZ. BGGS is a Title 1 school where most of my students come from low-income families and do not have access to educational materials or experiences, outside of school.
These resources will bring science to life through interactive and engaging activities that make abstract concepts accessible, tangible, and improve outcomes for students with special needs in low-income areas.
These resources will support activities that foster curiosity, encourage laughter while learning, cultivate a sense of community, and facilitate meaningful experiences to enhance comprehension, retention, and recollection of challenging concepts through interactive and engaging activities. Unfortunately, due to budget constraints, our classroom lacks the resources necessary to provide the quality experiential science education that my students deserve.
My students are an incredible group of high-school age learners with diverse abilities and unique needs. They are kind, joyful, underestimated, and important. My students thrive when given hands-on, experiential learning activities. Students approach learning with alacrity when they view learning as fun. By providing more experiential science activities in the classroom, abstract concepts are more tangible, comprehension and meaningful retention are enhanced, and educational outcomes for students with special needs are improved.
