This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our Title I, PreK - 8th grade school building is located in Yonkers, New York. The building is huge, and we lack many resources. We have over 1,000 students, and all receive free breakfast and lunch. Most come from Latin America and attend monolingual and bilingual classes. The students in my class come to school wanting to learn and work hard because school is a safe place for them to be.

My students are amazing, and I am so lucky to be their Reading teacher!

My students are ready to embark on an exciting literary journey with the gripping novel 'Hatchet' by Gary Paulsen. In this survival-themed adventure, students will follow the protagonist, Brian, as he navigates the challenges of the wilderness after a plane crash. By providing each student with their own copy of Hatchet, students will gain a deeper understanding of the narrative and encourage thoughtful analysis of the themes presented.

Students will be exposed to a riveting story that not only captivates their imaginations but also instills valuable life lessons about resilience, problem-solving, and the power of the human spirit. Your support will empower my students to become avid readers and critical thinkers. Thank you for reading about my students and considering my project.
