My Project

I love my students because each brings a unique personality and strengths to the classroom. They’re curious, resilient, and eager to learn, even when faced with challenges. Watching them overcome obstacles, big or small, is truly inspiring.

For this project, candle making is more than just a craft—it's an incredible hands-on learning experience.

It allows students to work on fine motor skills, follow multi-step directions, and use creativity. Each step, from melting wax to adding fragrances and colors, requires focus and concentration, which helps my students develop problem-solving skills. They also practice math by measuring ingredients and engage in scientific exploration by observing how materials change states from solid to liquid and back again.

The specific resources, such as wax, wicks, fragrance oils, and molds, will give my students the materials they need to create their own candles. These supplies will support their learning by providing sensory experiences that can help them with sensory processing, and engaging activities that help build their confidence.

Goals for this project:

-Improve fine motor skills through hands-on tasks.

-Enhance understanding of following sequential instructions.

-Practice math skills through measuring and counting.

-Foster creativity and self-expression.

-Provide a calming sensory experience for students with special needs.

What makes my students special is their incredible diversity. Some may struggle academically, but they bring enthusiasm, creativity, and perseverance to every challenge. They remind me daily that learning doesn’t look the same for everyone, but growth happens when we meet students where they are. Candle-making will give them a meaningful, sensory-rich project that they can take pride in completing.
