Each year, the Florida Association for Media in Education (FAME) curates the highly anticipated Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) list. These books are carefully chosen for their wide appeal, literary value, varied genres, and diverse representation, making them the perfect catalyst for fostering a lifelong love of reading.
With your help, I want to bring the magic of the newest SSYRA books directly into our Family Reading Center!
Having these books readily available will allow my students to:
Discover diverse voices and perspectives: The SSYRA list is known for featuring a rich array of characters and cultural experiences, offering mirrors for students to see themselves and windows into the lives of others.
Engage in lively book discussions: When every student has access to these popular titles, we can facilitate more engaging book clubs, and classroom discussions, fostering a vibrant reading community.
Participate in the statewide reading challenge: Many of my students are eager to participate in the SSYRA program, which encourages them to read a certain number of books and vote for their favorite. Having these books in our Family Reading Center makes this an exciting goal for every student.
Experience the joy of choice: Giving students direct access to these highly sought-after titles empowers them to choose books that genuinely excite them, making reading a pleasure, not a chore.
The books I'm requesting are the newest 2025-2026 SSYRA titles. Each book represents an opportunity to ignite a passion for reading in my students and provide them with the high-quality literature they deserve.
