Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am incredibly fortunate to teach diverse students, each bringing unique perspectives and experiences to our classroom. They also face unique challenges, including disabilities that make the reading process difficult, gaps in formal schooling, and a lack of literacy in even their native language.

However, my students' resilience and determination to succeed despite these challenges make them special.

The materials I am requesting will each help enhance our reading program and support my students' learning in various ways:

Cushions will create a comfortable and inviting reading nook, encouraging longer and more focused reading sessions. Headphones will allow students to engage with audiobooks and literacy apps, improving their listening and comprehension skills. Whisper phones enable students to hear themselves as they read aloud, promoting better pronunciation and fluency. The highlighters will aid students in identifying critical information and essential passages in texts, enhancing their ability to summarize and analyze reading materials. The guided reading strips will help students focus on individual lines of text, reducing visual distractions and aiding in tracking while reading. Finally, the counters will be used with Elkonin boxes to help students blend and segment phonemes.

My goal for this project is to create an engaging and supportive literacy environment where every student can thrive. By providing these resources, you too can help improve their reading skills, boost their confidence, and foster a lifelong love for reading!
