Igniting a Love for Literacy: High-Interest Books for Emerging Readers

Help me give my students the superstars of early literacy they need to conquer fluency and find their reading passion!

My Project

Our first grade classroom is buzzing with potential, but we desperately need the right fuel to ignite a lifelong passion for reading. Currently, for many of our young learners, including our incredible English Language Learners (ELLs) and students with disabilities, finding a book that thrills them is a daily struggle. We must transform reading from a confusing chore into a magical adventure. We want our room to be a vibrant reading oasis where every single child becomes an eager, confident reader ready to explore the world through stories.

We are requesting the superstars of early literacy!

We need high-quality collections of familiar, beloved characters like Pete the Cat, Splat the Cat, Biscuit, and the hilarious works of Mo Willems (such as Elephant & Piggie). These titles aren't just fun; they are transformative tools. Their predictable text, expressive visuals, and engaging characters lower the barrier to entry, allowing our emerging readers to conquer fluency and build the core confidence necessary for lasting reading success.

This collection is truly about equity and empowerment in our classroom. For all our first graders, these books are the joyful, successful bridge to independent reading. For our ELLs, the repetitive language and strong visuals are game-changers, dramatically accelerating language acquisition and comprehension. Crucially, the low-stress, engaging format is perfect for our students with disabilities, inviting them into the pure, shared joy of reading and storytelling during vital silent reading time.

Be the hero who sparks this change! Your donation is an investment in our students' futures. You won't just be giving us books; you'll be giving our most vulnerable learners the confidence and curiosity to become the passionate, lifelong readers they are destined to be. Help us fill our shelves and ignite their literacy today!
