Because of your generosity, our first graders now have access to a color printer and engaging decodable games that are transforming the way they learn every single day.\r\n\r\nMany people use technology at home, but in a first-grade classroom, it becomes a powerful learning tool. Our new color printer allows me to create high-quality, engaging materials that directly support reading instruction. Instead of plain black-and-white worksheets, students now see vibrant phonics patterns, highlighted sight words, and colorful visuals that help them better understand sounds and spelling patterns. For beginning readers, those visual supports make a big difference. The color helps them focus, notice patterns, and stay engaged longer.\r\n\r\nThe decodable games have been especially exciting for my students. In first grade, learning to read requires practice with specific phonics skills. These games allow students to practice decoding in a hands-on, interactive way. Instead of just reading from a page, they are building words, playing partner games, and applying their skills in a fun and meaningful context. They don't even realize how much practice they are getting because they are so engaged!\r\n\r\nI have seen particular growth in some of my more hesitant readers. A few students who used to avoid reading are now volunteering to participate during phonics centers. The games make reading feel achievable and fun. One student who struggled with blending sounds now proudly reads words aloud during game time. The confidence boost has been incredible to witness.\r\n\r\nYour donation has not just provided materials—it has provided motivation, confidence, and joy in learning. You have helped create a classroom where students feel excited to practice reading and proud of their progress.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students and investing in their future. This gift has already made a meaningful difference for my bilingual special education students, many of whom are multilingual learners and have special needs such as ASD, ADHD, and speech and language delays.\r\n\r\nBecause of your donation, our lessons have become more engaging and accessible. With color-printed visuals, anchor charts, picture cards, and individualized learning materials, students can better understand new vocabulary, follow routines, and participate actively during instruction. For many of my learners, color cues and images are essential tools that support attention, comprehension, and communication -your contribution made that possible.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has brought joy, accessibility, and new learning opportunities into our classroom. Your generosity has transformed our learning environment, directly impacting how my students engage with their lessons every single day.\r\n\r\nThe addition of the colored printer has been a game-changer. Students are naturally drawn to bright, vibrant materials, and the ability to print high-quality visual aids, diagrams, and project elements in full color has noticeably increased their engagement. Seeing their creative work and essential learning materials truly \"pop\" off the page helps solidify concepts and makes learning a much more exciting and dynamic experience.\r\n\r\nEqually transformative are the new lap desks we purchased for our flexible seating arrangement. Giving students the choice to work from a comfortable spot—whether that's on a floor cushion or a wobble stool—has created a focused, yet relaxed, atmosphere. The students absolutely love being able to select the seating that best suits their learning style.\r\n\r\nFurthermore, these lap desks serve a critical function by providing testing accommodations. For students who need a separate workspace, a clear barrier, or just a quiet, self-contained area to focus during assessments, these desks are essential tools. They help ensure every student has the optimal chance to demonstrate their knowledge, making our classroom more equitable and supportive.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing not just in materials, but in the comfort, engagement, and success of my students. Your kindness will continue to shape our lessons for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1758899003899,"projectUrl":"project/a-pop-of-color/9739852/","projectTitle":"A Pop of Color","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mei","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10272074_orig.png?crop=504,504,x8,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758392932429","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-mei-331"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_133984","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":401,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":74,"percentAsian":14,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":12,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":34,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":76.5,"schoolId":133984,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about WenJian Liu School of Civics & Entrepreneurship on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"WenJian Liu School of Civics & Entrepreneurship","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/liu-school-civics-entreprenrshp/133984"}
