We all have a story to tell... and learn how by exploring the well-written stories of others! The seventh and eighth graders in our English 8 and, especially in our new Storytelling elective, are inspired by contemporary stories of young people in all walks of life (and fantastical ones as well!).
The more students read, the better readers and writers they become!
Our new Storytelling class is a combination of Creative Writing and Public Speaking! We are excited to offer a class that supplements traditional English classes and gives all of our students a creative outlet. Based on a workshop model, our students will explore literature as they explore their own relationship and goals with the stories inside them.
My Project
We need contemporary books to inspire their reading and writing! Our titles include Girl Out of Water, The Car, Six of Crows, Every Last Word and more. These books will help our classroom celebrate the importance of reading. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy, but it sorely needs updating!
Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and all of these books have been chosen with my students in mind.
I have also asked them what type of books they would enjoy reading and they helped make this list. Students will be able to choose books from our classroom library at will, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level.
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences.
