My Students
As a reading teacher in the 21st century, it is imperative to find ways to integrate technology into the curriculum in order to interest the students as well as prepare them for the future. Nooks are a great way to motivate struggling students and differentiate for all levels of readers.
The students that come into my classroom every day are hungry for learning!
Our school is very low socioeconomic and has a high mobility rate. The students don't have a lot of opportunities to experience technology outside of our school. They often come to me as struggling, below level readers. I have to try lots of things to get them interested in books. Also, they are often at many different reading levels. Our school is not able to purchase books in large quantities for book studies. However, with a Nook, we can just download many different books for groups to use. Lastly, my students love to try new things, especially with technology. I think Nooks would be a perfect solution for a new and exciting way to read a book.
My Project
Being able to read is a vital part of being successful in all grades and in life after grade school. If a student can't read or doesn't like to read, it can have a very adverse affect on them. Having a new, more exciting way, to read a book could be the answer to this problem. My hopes are that the students become excited about using the Nooks and thus want to read more. There is a huge variety of books to download so finding something that interests them will be easy. You can also differentiate very easily with the Nooks to meet all students' needs in a classroom. With more reading comes more vocabulary, fluency, confidence, and deeper comprehension creating a classroom full of more advanced readers and writers. Using Nooks in book studies will hopefully create a new love for reading that carries over to all subjects and types of reading. They will learn about working with groups to create projects based on a book.

I want them to have every opportunity possible so that they will continue to be successful in all grades and hopefully one day go to college. A donation of Nooks will be instrumental in giving them a new and exciting opportunity to experience reading in a whole new way.
