I work with an incredible group of students who are passionate about learning and growing in their multilingualism and who are proud of their multicultural heritage. They are hard-working, compassionate, and resilient to the challenges many have already faced in their young lives. My scholars are from a variety of grade levels and are a part of either our Dual Language Program or ESL program, if enrolled in a monolingual-English class.
My students come eager and ready to learn each day and willing to face each challenge head on if it means it will help create a better future for themselves.
We have over 125 English learners (ELs) in our school, and although many of my students and their families face financial hardships and struggle with always having the daily physical and material needs met, they make their education a priority.
My Project
Language learning happens best when you use a whole-body process that involves a variety of opportunities for speaking, listening, reading, and writing. These happen throughout each language standard which includes Language of Mathematics, Language of Science, Language of Social Studies, Language of Language Arts, and Social and Instructional Language. As the structure of my day only allows me to work with each group of students for a limited block of time, I need to make the most out of every minute I have with them.
Having these Amazon Fire tablets readily available will allow me to access educational tools and programs more quickly and provide more hands-on and engaging experiences that get my students excited about learning!
Students will use these tools to gain access to a variety of books at differentiated reading levels and will have more resources for text to be read aloud to them which helps them build and develop their English literacy skills, yet still have access to the content. It also will allow for more opportunities to practice their speaking skills through different programs and apps that allow them to easily record their reading, explain and justify their thinking as they solve math problems, and also engage in academic conversations with their peers. These tablets will also help provide listening activities that will model the use of proficient English language and allow more frequent opportunities to help build grammar skills which benefit their written language as well.
Please consider donating to my students and help prepare them to become successful, future leaders in our ever-changing, technology-driven world.
