My students need lab coats for the variety of labs that would otherwise get them dirty. The only lab coats I have are for my Middle School Students (7th - 9th grade) and they don't fit.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My elementry students range from elementary (K-5) where I am helping them become scientists by asking questions and doing fun, educational science labs. They are a diverse group age wise, culturally and academically; however, they are all natural scientists with a variety of learning styles that include visual, auditory, hands-on and everything in between.
What they have in common is a natural curiosity for the world around them--which means science.
They are naturally inquisitive and I utilize that to pique their curiosity by letting them ask questions and learning how to apply the scientific method in all aspects of their lives.
I employ a lot of different educational strategies, a smorgasbord approach, which includes songs, amazing videos, power points and tons of hands-on labs where the students learn through discover and from each other. And they perform extraordinarily well.
My Project
I teach a science enrichment program for grade K-5 at my charter school. A total of 600 students rotate through on a regular basis where we do labs that often get them dirty since we use sand, mud, jello, colored water, experiments that are reactive (elephant toothpaste, etc).
Thus far we have done earthquake labs using jello pans; erosion projects using sand, wind and water; density labs using water, vegetable oil and isopropyl alcohol; elephant toothpaste using hydrogen peroxide; weather labs using food coloring, tornado tubes; ocean labs using shells, baby oil, food coloring and water; a surface tension lab using milk and food coloring; etc.
All of these labs can be messy and my elementary students who come to my laboratory have no protective clothing.
Since this is a program that my school plans on expanding next year, it would be great for the elementary students to have lab coats which would also make them feel more like scientists. If they feel like scientists and do science--they become junior scientists and the scientists of our future.
