Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a class of eight students in grades K-4 who have various developmental, intellectual, and physical disabilities such as autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, and cerebral palsy. They are a great group of kids with so much potential!

At our school, 88% of students are considered "economically disadvantaged" and 74% are considered "at-risk".

Our school's mission is to provide a compassionate and kind learning environment for all in which students experience acceptance and success. We strive to help our students be responsible, highly motivated, and actively engaged.

My Project

Our new coffee cart will be the heart of our classroom's emphasis on life skills and social skills. This cart will help all of my students learn skills that will help them to become thriving members of society.

Our hope is that this coffee cart will help our students learn important life skills such as recipe following, sequencing, appropriate social skills, number recognition, reading and comprehension, financial literacy, health and hygiene, and so much more!

My students will be responsible for collection pre-orders, sorting money and supplies, taking cash and making change, brewing coffee (with adult supervision, of course), and serving our customers.
